StarStoneTM Countertops
StarStoneTM is an alternative to granite, marble, corian, silestone, or similar products for both interior and exterior applications. This StarStone is a countertop material to be used for exterior or interior applications of commercial and/or residential buildings.
StarStone is designed for flush installation on cabinetry or other applications in connection where countertop surfaces would apply. StarStone is manufactured in four (4) different finishes: Polished, Matte, Satin, and Zero Sheen. It can be manufactured in a variety of colors and profiles. Custom finishes resembling granite, marble, corian, and other decorative surfaces may be produced. All products have an integral surface that is water repellent and stain resistant.
StarStone may be manufactured in most dimensions; however, standard nominal dimensions are: ¾" to 2" thick, up to 27" wide with lengths up to twelve (12) feet. As a true replacement product, StarStone can be handled in much the same manner as current countertop materials using the standard tools and methods for this industry, as well as standard fastening systems and methods. The material may also be treated using customary stone working techniques.
StarStone has many product advantages. StarStone has superior properties over corian and other competing products, including resistance to fire , water , weather , termites , dry rot, mold, fading under UV and other light exposure . A further advantage of the product over granite or marble is that every length of StarStone is extruded at prime grade, without the structural flaws and weaknesses inherent in cultivated stone products.
StarStone technology is based upon extruded cementitious composite technology and is made of abundant and commonly available material components such as standard Portland cement, PVA fiber, and silica or other inorganic fillers. Water provides the mechanism for hydration and strength gain. Resistance to water, oils or other solvents is also possible using PeritusSealTM (see section 3.1).
